Iowa Giving Crew started as a group of friends from the Cedar Rapids area who banded together to do some good in our local communities. Their mission: raising funds and marshaling resources within our collective networks to serve those in need throughout our community.
Iowa Giving Crew first partnered with the Marion Independent School Foundation and Alumni Association in August 2020 when Sarah Hoke, Math Strategist at Francis Marion Intermediate and Longfellow Elementary and an Iowa Giving Crew volunteer, connected with MISD Social Worker Michelle Wilson to discuss how Iowa Giving Crew could help students and their families. This meeting turned into a $1,000 donation for MISD student needs related to Derecho recovery.
Along with this generous gift, Iowa Giving Crew committed to donating $1,800 to Start School Right 2021 and donated $5,000 to support Start School Right 2022 with a pledge to support this program annually going forward. Start School Right is a yearly initiative providing Marion Independent School District families with the items and resource information they need to have a successful school year and this funding will go a long way to meet student needs. Sarah Hoke is serving on the Start School Right Committee as a liaison and Iowa Giving Crew has offered to assist with supply drives, donation collecting and volunteers as we gear up for this year’s event.
Thank you to Sarah Hoke, Michelle Wilson and Iowa Giving Crew for supporting education in Marion!
