Start School Right

Start School Right began in 2015 to support families with some of the items students need before heading back to school. A volunteer committee of district staff and community members plans and hosts this event each year. Students attending receive school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, tennis shoes, breakfast food and more thanks to a variety of local partners. Community resource information also plays an important part of this event so families can learn about year-round support available locally through social service and non-profit organizations.

Families must pre-register their students no later than July 4th, indicating the items their students will need (school supplies, backpacks, clothing, hygiene items, tennis shoes, breakfast food, etc.) Registration information was distributed by email in early May. Contact your school if you did not receive the registration information.

This year’s Start School Right pickup event will be at the Starry School location on Thursday, August 8 from 5-7 pm. Also available during this time will be a community resource fair, a meal provided by Hy-Vee, and dental and vision screenings.
