Start School Right

Start School Right began in 2015 to support families with some of the items students need before heading back to school. A volunteer committee of district staff and community members plans and hosts this event each year. Students attending receive school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, tennis shoes, breakfast food and more thanks to a variety of local partners. Community resource information also plays an important part of this event so families can learn about year-round support available locally through social service and non-profit organizations.

Start School Right will hold an in-person event in 2023. Families must pre-register their students no later than July 4th. Items will be available for pick up at Vernon Middle School on Thursday, August 10th 5-7pm. Also available during that time will be a community resource fair, a meal provided by Hy-Vee, and dental and vision screenings.
