Start School Right began in 2015 to support families with some of the items students need before heading back to school. A volunteer committee of district staff and community members plans and hosts this event each year. Students attending receive school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, tennis shoes, breakfast food and more thanks to a variety of local partners. Community resource information also plays an important part of this event so families can learn about year-round support available locally through social service and non-profit organizations.
While the event has been held arena-style in the past, changes were made last year due to COVID-19 to provide for the safety of all participants. The plan for fall 2021 will be similar to last year’s Start School Right. Student supplies and community resource information will be delivered to families August 12-15, 2021 by teams of volunteers.
