With support from a committee of school counselors, staff, and community members as well as several volunteers, Start School Right assisted a record-number of students – 154 families attended with more than 350 students receiving school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and food. In addition, free dental, vision and hearing screenings were available as well as haircuts and dinner.
Thanks to the generosity of Wells Fargo, Dupaco R.W. Hoefer Foundation and Walmart Foundation, this year’s event held on Wedensday, August 7, 2019 not only met the basic needs of MISD students but also provided a forum for families to connect with 15 community organizations who sent representatives so event attendees could learn about a number of services available year-round.
