Marion Grant Promotes The Joy of Reading

In September 2022, Starry Elementary School staff helped K-2nd grade students select a new book to take home for their home library. This is part of a Marion Foundation Grant funded project which provides all K-4 students with a new book each month for the 2022-2023 school year. This includes students at Starry Elementary, Francis Marion Intermediate and Longfellow Elementary.

Marion Independent School District Reading Strategists strive to foster the joy of reading at school and at home. Some families are unable to provide their children with new books and access to books has been limited by reconstruction of the Marion Public Library. By providing students with free books every month, we will help build their family library and the opportunity to develop a joy for reading.

The Marion Foundation’s grant program provides teachers an opportunity to receive funding for projects that benefit students in the Marion Independent School District. Grants are made possible because of generous contributions the Foundation receives throughout the year from both businesses and individuals as well as a number of educational funds that are invested with the Foundation for long-term benefit.

This project was also made possible by funding from the Alliant Energy Foundation.
