MARION GRANT PROVIDES VMS BAND INSTRUMENTS

During fall of 2023 Vernon Middle School teachers Jennifer Adams and Michelle Waymire applied for Marion Foundation grant support for a funded project purchasing two additional flutes, alto saxophones and trumpets, to be loaned out to students in need to allow them to participate in band.

This grant purchase is a big step forward in building Vernon’s inventory to meet the needs of our families who may not have the financial means to purchase the desired instrument for their child. It helps to remove barriers to participation.

We are happy to report that the instruments have been purchased and are being used for Vernon Middle School students involved in traditional and jazz band.

“We have discovered how motivational and impactful it is to student participation, engagement, and musical development to be able to play on a quality instrument. We continue to strive to keep our inventory as up-to-date as possible.” -Jennifer Adams and Michelle Waymire

This project was made possible through support from the Shindoll family.

The Marion Foundation’s grant program provides teachers an opportunity to receive funding for projects that benefit students in the Marion Independent School District. Grants are made possible because of generous contributions the Foundation receives throughout the year from both businesses and individuals as well as a number of educational funds that are invested with the Foundation for long-term benefit.
