The annual Marion Foundation Golf Classic was scheduled for Friday, September 27 at Gardner Golf Course. After reviewing the Iowa weather forecast, the decision was made to reschedule events two weeks later for Friday, October 11. All were ready to break out the umbrellas and brave some drizzles, but Mother Nature brought some near freezing temperatures along with another round of high winds to the golf course on the 11th. The only recourse at that point was to turn the golf classic into an “Un-Golf” Classic!
After a third round of letters, emails, and phone calls, all participants relocated to Red Cedar Lodge at Squaw Creek Park for the day’s events. Despite the frigid weather all attendees were in good spirits as everyone enjoyed door prizes and raffle items, bid on silent auction items, received golf vouchers for next season, heard form MISD Superintendent Dr. Janelle Brouwer and MHS Activities Director Mike Mandserscheid, and ate a delicious catered lunch provided by Meal Sponsor Darrell Peterson of Peterson’s Senior Health Insurance.
