Veterans Display Case

Honoring MHS Alumni Who Served

Recently our staff added new material to the veterans display case, located in the hallway of the administrative wing at Marion High School. This new material features Lieutenant Colonel (Air Corps) William Norman Reed, MHS Class of 1935. Bill was a World War II fighter ace who fought with the Flying Tigers and died in defense of the nation he loved.

Thank you to Bill’s nephew Ed Reed (MHS Class of 1956) for sharing this amazing historical material with The Marion Independent School Foundation & Alumni Association.  As Ed put it best, we hope that visitors “will pause in front of the exhibit and realize that Marion grads of the past contributed to their free and comfortable life as they enjoy it today. The men and women who fought in WWII overcame the hardships of the Great Depression in addition to the trials and tribulations of the war… We should also keep in mind those parents who experienced their youngsters going off to fight in Europe, Asia, and other unfamiliar regions of the world.”
