Grant Funds Purchase Flexible Seating for MHS Classrooms

In fall 2021, MHS Special Education Teachers MacKenzie Schroeder and Hilary Hansen received a funded grant from the Marion Independent School Foundation to provide flexible seating, whiteboard tables, and standing desks for their department. According to a letter of support from Associate Principal Chris Raymond, “[These items] will help students better regulate and focus their energy on classroom activities.

Students are more engaged when allowed to pick their seating preference. They are also communicating and collaborating in different ways that allow them to grow more as students and individuals. This grant will impact two teachers and 35 students over the course of 3 blocks and MBlock and will have a positive impact on the special education program at Marion High School.

The Marion Foundation’s grant program provides teachers an opportunity to receive funding for projects that benefit students in the Marion Independent School District. Grants are made possible because of generous contributions the Foundation receives throughout the year from both businesses and individuals as well as a number of educational funds that are invested with the Foundation for long-term benefit.
